Patna: Apparently apprehensive that Congress would cut into his traditional Muslim votebank, RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday said the party he had once supported in its hour of crisis, was now out to finish him in the coming Assembly polls.

"We extended support to the Congress at its hour of crisis. Even when Sonia Gandhi was under attack on the issue of her foreign origin, I took the lead to corner the forces inimical to her," Prasad said.

The secular parties had joined hands with the Congress to overthrow "communal and fascist forces" from power in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, he said at a function to welcome JD(U) leader from Madhubani Fayaz Ahmed, who joined RJD with his supporters.

"Now it is the same Congress which is contesting the elections to politically finish me. It is, however, a different matter that it will never succeed in its plan as people are aware of it," he said.

He alleged that Congress, which is contesting all the 243 Assembly seats alone, was doing so to strengthen BJP and asked people not to vote for the two parties.

'The Congress is responsible for ills ... it has done nothing for youths and minorities though it is still in power at the Centre," Prasad said. PTI
