New Delhi: BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today made fun of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing the BJP National Council here by saying that the Congressmen were demanding a Prime Minister, but were instead given LPG cylinders.

Addressing partymen at the Ramlila Maidan here, Modi promised to rein in inflation if the BJP was elected to power in 2014.

"If Atalji's government could curb pricerise, if Morarjibhai's government could curb inflation, I can promise you we  can curb inflation, if the BJP comes to power this year", said Modi.

Following is the live reporting of Modi's speech at the National Council:

1:41 pm: There is a huge reservoir of young men and women waiting for job opportunities. I promise to give them job opportunities if BJP comes to power : Modi

1:40 pm: If Atal Bihar Vajpayee's govt can curb inflation, if Morarjibhai's government can curb price rise, then I can promise you BJP can curb inflation if it comes to power in 2014, says Modi

1:32 pm: It was said in AICC meet that Congress is a 'soch' (a way of thinking). We also agree Congress is a soch, They think of Bharat as a madhumakkhi ka chhattha (beehive), we consider Bharat as Bharat Mata. Their soch is that they don't get satisfaction unless they speak of the poor, our soch is that we can't sleep because of poor people. Their thinking is that only those people can run India, who have Congress in their hearts, our thinking is that tickets will be given to those who have Bharat Mata in their hearts.  For 60 years, you (people) gave your heart to rulers, I want to ask you give your heart once to a sewak (servant) : Modi

1:30 pm: The nation has been hearing this Act, that Act, the other Act, but the time now is for Action: Modi (commenting on Rahul's claim of bringing RTI Act, MNREGA, Lokpal Act, etc)

1:28 pm: People must decide whether they will trust tape records or track records. Our track record is perfect. We don't just need bills, we need political will.  For doing that, one need's political dil (heart): Modi

1:25 pm: Good governance should focus not on giving out doles, but on development and delivery: Modi

1:10 pm: Congress leaders think its beneath their dignity to contest against a man who sells tea and whose mother used to wash utensils. They (Congress) are naamdaar, I am a kaamdar (labourer) : Modi

1:07 pm: On Sonia Gandhi resisting announcement of Rahul as PM candidate, Modi says: "No mother will ever want to see her son sacrificed, when defeat is imminent."

1:03 pm: Modi questions Rahul's claim that Congress MPs always elected their Prime Ministers. Can the Congress show documents and notes to prove their parliamentary party ever elected their PMs? Congress MPs never elected Dr Manmohan Singh as prime minister. They elected Soniaji, who instead, selected Manmohanji for the top job. I can guarantee no party constituent in UPA ever selected Manmohanji for PM : Modi

12:56 pm: Congress workers came to the AICC meet in Delhi hoping to get a strong PM candidate. Instead they got three extra LPG cylinders full of gas : Modi.

12:55 pm: This year's election is not an ordinary election. This election relates to our dreams, our hopes, our aspirations: Modi.

12: 50 pm: The past decade has been a decade of frustration. Farmers committing suicides, women assaulted and raped, children dying of hunger and cold : Modi
