Chennai: Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan has been appointed as the Leader of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, replacing Panneerselvam who has been elevated as Chief Minister, following the conviction and subsequent disqualification of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa.

“Natham R Viswanathan, Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise is appointed as the Leader of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly,” a release from A M P Jamaludeen, Assembly Secretary, said here today.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly will meet on December 4, 2014 for its first session after the disqualification of Jayalalithaa, who was sentenced to four years' imprisonment in an assets case by a Bengaluru special court on September 27.
