KOLKATA: The Centre may not be listening to her demand for withdrawal of central forces from Jangalmahal, but Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is sticking to her guns.

Before leaving for New Delhi on Sunday afternoon, the Trinamool chief said that the situation in the state warranted President's rule. Banerjee, however, stopped short of making the demand, saying that people will "dismiss the Left Front government".

Banerjee is likely to meet union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday. She has repeatedly sought the Centre's intervention on the issue of central forces in the three Maoist-infested districts of West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.

The meeting with Mukherjee is to discuss the modalities of the amendments proposed in the land acquisition act. Banerjee has demanded that a fresh act should be drafted. Banerjee is also likely to raise the law and order issue with the senior minister.

"They came to power in Tripura with President's rule. In West Bengal too the same thing happened. The law and order situation in the state is so bad that President's rule can be introduced here any day. The Left Front government can be dismissed by the Centre,'' Banerjee said.
