There seems to be a clear difference of opinion emerging on the Maharashtrian migrant issue between the RSS and the Shiv Sena. Mohan Bhagwat, RSS chief has issued a directive to Sangh workers to protect North Indians in Maharashtra in the wake of the Shiv Sena's Marathi Andolan.

This is in direct opposition of BJP's ally -- the Shiv Sena stand communal politics in the state has reached a pitch with the Sena and Raj Thackeray's MNS running a Marathi Andolan, even forcing migrant taxi drivers to learn Marathi within a specific time period.

Shiv SEna had recently along with MNS supported the govt's decision to give taxi permits to only those who know how to speak, read and write Marathi.

Raj Thackeray said, "They don't know the language, they don't know the city. Maharashtra is not a Dharamshala for people from UP and Bihar. If they are plying 4,500 taxi's they have also set 4,500 homes in Mumbai."

"We welcome this because it is an important step and should have been taken much earlier. This step is not meant to oppose anyone or politicise anything," added Thackrey.
