New Delhi: Fourteen staffers including five officials of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment are in trouble as they were found absent without information today when Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot conducted a surprise check.

Gehlot went unannounced to various rooms of his department in Shastri Bhavan here at around 2.15 PM to check the attendance of the staffers.

He found five Section Officers and nine other staffers absent without information, a source close to the Minister said.

Taking a strong view of this, he asked senior ministry officials to seek explanation from them on this.  Of the Section Officers, four work in the Department of Differently Abled, while the fifth is with the Department Social Justice, sources said.

They said Gehlot was on the surprise visit for over an hour, during which he enquired about the functioning of the departments under his ministry and queried whether there were problems.

Since Modi Government came to power several Ministers were conducting surprise checks to crack the whip on those reporting late to office.

With the aim of ensuring punctuality, bio-metric attendance marker systems have been installed for employees of the ministries of Urban Development and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation located in the Nirman Bhawan here.

Installation of Bio-Metric Monitors followed surprise checks undertaken by Urban Development and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Venkaiah Naidu on July 28 and June 12 during which late coming to office was noticed.

Following a surprise check by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar which found several employees not reporting on time, the I and B ministry has also initiated the process of installing biometric attendance system.
