The district unit of Samajwadi Party has asked party workers not to use English in invitation cards for their family functions or else party members will boycott the event.

"This year, the party is celebrating the birth centenary of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and trying to fulfil the dream of the great leader by protesting the language. We believe that English must be learned but should not be used as an official language as it is a foreign language," SP's Kanpur district president Jitender Bahadur Singh said today.

SP's Kanpur division had decided in a meeting that the party workers will not get their invitation cards printed in English. Instead, they would be printed in Hindi or any other Indian language.

"Party leaders have decided that they would oppose and boycott any function hosted by any party worker, if he gets the invitation card printed in English," Singh said.

The leader said that Samajwadi Party has always worked for promotion of Hindi and is not against learning English. "Like Japan and China are developing by using their mother-tongue, we shall also do the same," Singh said. PTIĀ
