New Delhi: In a statement that may stoke fresh controversy, BJP's firebrand leader Subramanian Swamy on Friday called India's first prime minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru a 'third class pass'
Speaking to media, Swamy said, “We have recommended to rename JNU after Subash Chandra Bose as he was a highly educated personality and Nehru was just third class pass.”
Bharti also termed the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and professors as "naxalites."
"Not only students, I am also calling JNU professors as naxal," said Swamy while responding to a question on Friday.
Swamy also alleged that Nehru declined US offer of UNSC seat to India in place of KMT China.
"JLN declined offer of US in 1950 to seat India on UNSC with veto in place of KMT China which govt was taken over by Mao, and told lies to LS" Swamy also said in a twitter post.
Responding to Swamy's remarks, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said, "At one point of time Subramanian Swamy was a bright leader, now he is just a political joker."
Another Congress leader Manish Tiwari termed Swamy's UNSC remark as preposterous, He said, " It has to be the most preposterous statement anyone can make, it's completely absurd."
According to some reports, HRD Ministry is believed to have offered the post of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) vice
chancellor to Swamy, but he has put some conditions before accepting the coveted post.
It is learnt that HRD Minister Smriti Irani spoke to Swamy about the offer. However, there was no official communication from the Minister.
