In the wake of advisories from US and other countries warning of "imminent" terror attacks in New Delhi, the BJP on Sunday in Phagwara demanded enactment of a stringent law to fight terrorism.

"Internal security must be our first and foremost priority and our benchmark. We (should) better prepare and prevent rather than repair and repent," cricketer-turned politician and party national secretary Navjot Singh Sidhu told reporters here.

Asked whether there was any intellegence failure as the alert came from countries like US, he said, "It is no use pointing accusing fingers at one particular agency or party as fighting terrorism is a common cause.

"Right to live is a fundamental right and in case certain lumpen elements posed a threat to it then we all should jointly rise against them," the Amritsar MP said.

He also demanded an all-party meet to discuss the issue.

The US, UK and Australia yesterday issued fresh advisories, warning of "imminent" terror attacks in New Delhi, particularly in market places which are "attractive targets" for terrorist groups. PTI
