Kane Williamson made 77 and Ross Taylor made 57 joining Anderson in a late onslaught in which they added 74 runs in 4.4 overs.

New Zealand's innings was twice interupted by rain: for only 10 minutes on the first occasion then for almost two hours from the 34th over when they were 170-2. They showed little effect from the interruption, returning to score 101 runs in the last 8.4 overs.

They looked set for a formidable total, but lost four wickets for four runs, stemming the flow.

Shami was the most successful bowler taking three wickets for 55 in his 7 overs.

Earlier put into bat, New Zealand scored steadily with in-form batsman Kane Williamson (76 batting) scoring his second successive half century while Martin Guptill (44) and skipper Ross Taylor (26 batting) also made useful contributions.
