Exclusive: "Whatever MS Dhoni did is right," says Ravi Shastri
Dhaka: Team India's Director and Ravi Shastri today came in defence of Indian captain MS Dhoni.
Dhoni was fined 75 per cent of his match fees for allegedly shoving young Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman during the first ODI of the three-match cricket. Captain cool was charged with Level 2 offence under ICC Code of Conduct for elbowing the debutant pacer while chasing an imposing 308-run target set by Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.
Speaking to India TV in Dhaka, Ravi Shastri said, “Whatever Dhoni did was right, there was no option. In technical language it was a collision which was not avoidable at all.”
"You can also treat as it might be intentional but Dhoni had no way to go. And what he did extremely well was to save a critical injury. He softened the blow which might have proven fatal for the Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman," he pointed out.
Shastri also spoke about Team India's unexpected loss to hosts Bangladesh in the first One Day International.
“This loss is a lesson and surprise for team,” he said.
Bangladesh, riding on Mustafizur Rahman's five wicket haul, defeated India by 79 runs in the first match played at Mirpur stadium.
Talking about Team India's strategy for second ODI matched to be played Sunday, Shastri said, “There is no change in batting order".
