New Delhi: Legendary South African all rounder Jacques Kallis has backed Virat Kohli captaincy saying that  it's time the Indian test skipper should don the leadership role in ODIs and T20s too.

“I am sure Virat has the ability to lead India in all three formats. He will have to start somewhere and take over from MS. “ Kallis told The New Indian Express.

He also expressed confidence that Virat will not succumb under pressure as he can handle every situation.

“Only time will tell whether this move will work or backfire, but he comes across as a player who thrives under pressure. So Virat is the right choice, and he must give it a go," Kallis told the daily.

Jacques Kallis is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of cricket. He has scored 25534 runs and taken 577 wickets in 519 matches across all formats of the game.

It has been widely speculated that Mahendra Singh Dhoni can make way for Kohli for leading the team in the  One-Day Internationals for the upcoming South African tour in India.

Selectors do not want the different personalities and captaincy styles of Dhoni and Virat to affect the team in the long run so they are discussing to hand over the captainship to the latter.
