Germany Beats India 4-1 In Women's Hockey World Cup

Rosario (Argentina) : Hosts  Argentina, Germany and defending champions Netherlands each made it three wins out of three at the Women's Hockey World Cup in Rosario on Friday (3rd September) after play was cancelled on Thursday (2nd September) because of torrential rain.

In Pool A, Maartje Paumen scored a hat-trick as the Dutch beat Australia 4-1 following the same margin of victory for Germany over India.  

Argentina hammered Spain 4-0 in Pool B, while England and Korea played out a 1-1 draw.  Japan and New Zealand also drew 2-2 in Pool A, while China crushed South Africa 4-1 in the other group.

Gao Lihua scored two quick goals in succession for China. In the England v South Korea match, Kim Jong-Eun scored for Korea in the very first minute, but Helen Richardson leveled for England in the 37th minute.

In the Spain v Argentina match Alejandra Gulla scored for the latter in the 14th minute, followed by a penalty corner goal by Noel Barrionuevo in the 47th minute.

In the India v Germany match,  Maike Stoekel scored for Germany in the 32nd minute giving the later a 2-1 lead. Lydia Haase scored for Germany  in the 49th minute.

In the Australia v Netherlands match, Nicole Arrold scored from a penalty corner for Australia in the 21st minute, but the Dutch struck back.  Maartje Paumen scored from a penalty corner for the Netherlands giving it a 3-1 lead. Minke Smeets scored the fourth goal in the 46th minute. AP
