National level boxing champion sells kites for survival

New Delhi: In India, sports like cricket and tennis have managed to get a good recognition, all thanks to the glamour and revenue generation. All players are all in good condition because they are credited with prizes and huge cash for their tremendous performances.

But the situation of a boxing athlete in this country is terrible. This is the story of a national level boxer who bagged several gold and silver medals but today she is spending her life in dust.

Ruksar Banno, once a national-level boxing champion, is now making and selling kites to earn her livelihood.

The Kanpur based athlete has so far participated in 12 state championships and bagged many gold and silver medals.

The financial condition of Ruksar's family is also very bad. She is the only earning member in the family. She says that her daily income is only Rs 80.

She also says that the government never extended any helping hand towards her.

Ruksar even does not have shoes and tracksuits to practice for the upcoming championship.
