Belarus defeated France 1-0  in the opening Euro 2012 qualifying match at the Stade de France in Paris on Friday night.

France coach Laurent Blanc said: "We haven't started this qualification campaign very positively. As I told the payers, the hardest thing in football is to score when you have possession of the ball, which we were unable to do. Another important thing is when you cannot win the match, you should try not to lose it. And tonight we lost the match, even though I believe we had a chance to take one point at least."

In Blanc's first competitive game in charge of "Les Bleus", Sergei Kislyak scored in the 86th minute to give Belarus a 1-0 victory in Group D.

"We thought we could win the match against Belarus and we lost it, it's a great disappointment. We must regain confidence. Starting tomorrow, I will have to make choices, (calling up new players) since we lost both Loic (Remy) and Louis (Saha) in the same match", said Blanc.

"We were deprived of our best French striker Karim (Benzema). Tonight our best forwards were Florent Malouda and Louis Saha, four goals each, so we did not have an experienced striker on the French team. Of course, for the beginners tonight it is very hard psychologically, we will help them forget this result and motivate them before the difficult Bosnia game which awaits us", the French coach said.

On his part, Belarus coach Stange Bernd said:   "I think it was a great start in qualification. For Belarus to win away in France is an excellent start. Now we have a home match and two matches with Albania and Luxembourg. It could be a great start for us if we beat Romania next Tuesday." AP
