Tallinn (Estonia): Antonio Cassano scored one goal and set up another on Friday (September 3) to help Italy come back from a goal down and beat Estonia 2-1 in their opening Group C qualifier for the 2012 European Championship.  The Italians had not won since beating Sweden 1-0 in a friendly in November of 2009.

Italy failed to win its first seven games of 2010 - drawing four and losing three - in a streak that included a first-round elimination from the World Cup.

That miserable series looked set to continue when Sergei Zenjov put Estonia ahead in the 31st minute in their match on Friday.

But in the 60th minute, Antonio Cassano headed the Italians level. That was Cassano's first goal for his country since Euro 2004.  Three minutes later, the Sampdoria playmaker's near-post touch found Leonardo Bonucci who made it 2-1.

Salvatore Sirigu was playing in place of Gianluigi Buffon, who is still recovering from back surgery.  And in second-half injury-time, the Palermo goalkeeper almost gifted the Estonians an equaliser.

But coach Cesare Prandelli was to win his first competitive game in charge of Italy, as it finished 2-1 to "the Azzurri".  Italy, Estonia and Serbia each have three points in Group C.  AP
