US Open: Rafael Nadal beats Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets to reach quarterfinals
Spaniard Rafael Nadal has reached the quarterfinals of the US Open after claiming an easy win over Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets, 6-2,6-4,6-1. Nadal, the top seed for the men displayed a dominant performance during the match.
He broke serve six times and needed just 1 hour, 41 minutes to finish off his unseeded opponent. Nadal will face the winner of the Round of 16 match between David Goffin and Andrey Rublev.
Karolina Pliskova, the top seed for the women, made short work of unseeded American Jennifer Brady. Pliskova took Brady down in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 to clinch an easy win and advance to the quarterfinals where she will face the winner of the Round of 16 between CoCo Vandeweghe and Lucie Safarova.
Roger Federer will be in action later on as the Swiss maestro takes on Philipp Kohlschreiber. Federer won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season and could face Nadal in the semifinals if they both make it that far.
