The Reserve Bank of India will tomorrow issue Rs 200 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, two days after the government said it has approved the new notes to ease pressure on lower-denomination currency bills. The exercise of printing Rs 200 denomination notes is being undertaken to further improve the currency situation in the country. Following the demonetisation on November 9 last year, the Reserve Bank had introduced Rs 2,000 notes and also issued new Rs 500 notes with additional security features.

In a statement on Thursday, the RBI said the new notes will be issued from select RBI offices and some banks.

"The new denomination has Motif of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Bright Yellow. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse," it said.
