Categorically denying reports of Oracle having initiated a process towards acquiring IT consultant giant Accenture, the database giant has said that there was no truth in the rumors.

"The Accenture rumor is completely untrue. Never even considered it. Completely made up," an Oracle spokesperson told Business Insider.

The development comes on the back of news doing the rounds of database giant Oracle initiating the process of looking at IT consultant giant Accenture, with an eye toward acquisition.

Analysts had said that the acquisition would turn out to be a pricey buy for Oracle considering the heavy premium it would have to pay to make the deal work. Accenture has a market cap of $77.5 billion.

Last week, a report in ‘The Register’ cited a person as having told the publication that "While these things have a habit of fizzling out there are some fairly serious players around the table."
