Over 20 pc rise in January sales for Maruti, Toyota

Country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India has registered a sharp rise in sales in the month of January. The company has announced 27 per cent growth in overall sales.

In total, Maruti Suzuki India sold 1,44,396 vehicles last month compared to the 1,13,606 units sold during the same period in 2016.

The total sale of domestic cars in January stands at 133,934 vehicles versus 106,383 vehicles last year. The New Delhi headquartered company made an export sale of 10,462 vehicles compared to 7,223 vehicles last year.

Data released by the company showed that sales of DZire Tour fell by 15 per cent to 3001 units during the month. However, sales of mini cars (Alto, WagonR) grew by 10.9 per cent to 37928 units, compact cars (Celerio, Swift, Ritz, Ignis, Baleno, DZire) increased by 25. 2 per cent to 55817 units. Volumes in the utility vehicle segment too doubled, driven by the Brezza to 16313 units.

The Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) also managed to post strong double digit growth in domestic sales last month. The Bengaluru based automaker witnessed 21 per cent increase in sales.

The company sold 10,336 units in domestic market in January and exported 916 unites of Etios series. 

The company had sold 8,511 units in the domestic market and exported 745 units of Etios series in the same corresponding period last year.

“We recorded a 21% growth in sales in January 2017 when compared to the sales in January last year. Three months into demonetization and we can slowly see that the market is reviving with increased footfalls and customer enquiries. In fact, even with demonetization in effect, we have still managed to record a 17% growth in sales in the last three months when compared to the same period last year. This has been possible due to the overwhelming response the new Fortuner and Innova Crysta have received and we would like to thank our customers for the same,” N Raja, director & senior vice-president, (sales & marketing), Toyota Kirloskar Motor said.
