New Delhi: Audi India has launched the much awaited and affordable Q3 S model at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Q3 S is a trimmed down version of its popular Q3 SUV, bringing luxury car within an affordable price bracket.

The new locally assembled model takes on the Mercedes Benz A-Class and the upcoming BMW 1-Series in the battle for the best entry-level premium car.

The Q3 S Edition features a de-tuned 2.0 TDI four-cylinder engine which now makes 142PS as against the 180PS delivered by the standard Q3. It delivers 320Nm of torque between 1,750-2500rpm. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission the lighter Q3 S Edition is now a far more fuel efficient vehicle returning 17.32kmpl according to Audi.

The Q3 S has a single-frame grill body with its outline extended by the dynamic curve of the engine hood. The wedge-shaped headlights are available as a xenon plus version including LED daytime running lights. The wraparound tailgate is similar in design to those on its larger siblings, the Q5 and Q7.

Available only with a diesel engine, the Q3 S costs Rs 24.99 lakh, around Rs 2.3 lakh less than the next least expensive 2-litre TFSI variant which costs 27.37 lakh. Audi has managed to bring down the price by making quite a few changes to both the power-train and the equipment list. Additionally, the Q3 S loses out on Audi's famed Quattro all-wheel drive system and S-tronic automatic gearbox.

“The Audi Q3 S Edition is our answer to this ever increasing demand for luxury mobility with the thrill of self-controlled driving. We are confident that the Audi Q3 S Edition will be yet another successful addition to our success story in India,” said Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India at the model's launch.

Also there are minor changes in terms of comfort and convenience. The Q3 S still comes with features such as a leather-covered multi-function steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver seat, fold-out 6.5 inch media screen, LED interior lighting package and a voice dialogue system.

Audi is assembling the budget Q3 S at its Aurangabad plant from CKD kits in an attempt to cut pricing as much as possible.
