New Delhi: The Freedom 251 smartphone, was officially launched by the Noida-based technology company Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd on Wednesday. As the name suggests, it is priced at just Rs.251. At present, you can buy the Freedom 251 only through this website, which has crashed and will resume booking in the next 24 hours. The company is charging a shipping charge of Rs.40, which means you finally pay Rs.291 to get the Freedom 251. The company claims that the phone will be “delivered in 4 months”, from the date of booking.

Apart from winning the cheapest smartphone trophy, can the Freedom 251 create revolution in the smartphone market? Here is the first impression.

On design front, Freedom 251 has a close resemblance with an iPhone. It looks better than many other low-cost smartphones from several brands. Though the device is made of plastic and at the back there's an imprint of Indian flag with 'FREEDOM 251' written at the bottom portion making it unique. Overall, the device is very compact and fits perfectly in the hand.

The Freedom 251 has a 4-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) IPS display with bright viewing angles. The smartphone is a dual-SIM smartphone with 3G support.

It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. It comes with a 3.2MP auto-focus camera with LED Flash at the back along with a 0.3MP VGA resolution selfie camera. The phone is backed by a 1,450mAh battery and has connectivity features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and others.

It comes with pre-installed apps like Women Safety, Fisherman, Swachh Bharat, Farmer, Medical along with WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and others.

With a 3.2MP we cannot expect much but under good lighting, the rear camera seems fine for the price.

Ringing Bells is offering a proper smartphone which includes earphones and works fine for just Rs 251. This phone can be used by those who are still stuck with thier feature phones due to the high price.
