New Delhi: Heating up competition in the Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) space, Nissan on Wednesday launched the compact SUV Terrano at a starting price of Rs 9.58 lakh. The diesel variants of the car, which has built on the same platform as Renault Duster will be available at a price of Rs 9.58 lakh to Rs 12.44 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai)

The Terrano sports a slightly different styling to distinguish it from the Duster. At the front, the Terrano gets new angular headlamps, grille and bumper.

The rear is characterised by an all-new tailgate design a taillamp design that some may feel resemble the Ford EcoSport's. The tailgate gets an altered licence plate holder. The rear bumper has also been marginally restyled to accommodate the reflectors at a slightly altered position around the corners.

However, engine options continue to be the same as in the Duster, which is powered by the 1.5-litre dCi engine that is available in two states of tune.

"The Terrano will play a key role in boosting Nissan's sales volume in India and marks the company's entry into the expanding compact SUV segment," Nissan said in a statement in August.

"Terrano will be produced at Nissan's Oragadam plant alongside the premium hatchback Micra, Sunny sedan and Evalia urban class utility vehicle, expanding Nissan's locally-built model range to four," Nissan India had said in a statement, earlier this year.

According to Zigwheels.com, the Terrano, which has been praised highly by customers for its comfort, styling and performance since the nameplate was first introduced in 1986 is now in its fourth generation and will play a key role in boosting Nissan's sales volume in India and marks the company's entry into the expanding compact SUV segment.

"Exterior highlights on the new Terrano include sharp headlamps with a four pod design, an angled strut grille, coloured roof rails and silver-finished skid plates. But this entry-level SUV also promises to pamper its occupants with its well-appointed, premium interior."
