Royal Enfield, one of the world's oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production, has introduced a new colour scheme - Squadron Blue, for its iconic Classic 500 range of motorcycles.
Inspired by the Indian Air Force, the new shade is a tribute paid by Royal Enfield to the soldiers of the sky.
The motorcycle will be available at an on-road price of Rs 193,372 in Mumbai, Rs 189,350 in Chennai, Rs 198,649 in Bengaluru and Rs 196,700 in Kolkata and the booking are open in all the dealerships across the country.
While launching the new variant, Rudratej Singh, President of Royal Enfield said that the new Royal Enfield Classic 500 Squadron Blue is a tribute paid to Royal Enfield's wartime presence and its association with armed forces.
They wanted to bring genuine heritage for the customers, as a result, the company turned towards the Indian Air Force for their inspiration.
Royal Enfield was particular about the colour to create an authenticity and post-war appeal.
This same love for the Indian armed forces led the company to introduce Classic Squadron Blue colour for its highly popular model, which is now available at a price of Rs 186,688 on-road Delhi.
The company's association with the Indian armed forces began during the World Wars where these motorcycles were extensively used by the British Army.
Royal Enfield received its first order from the Indian Army in 1952 for 800 units for border patrolling.
The Indian Air Force also started using these motorcycles in 1950, since then, these motorbikes continue to be a part of Indian armed forces due to their durability and legendary ruggedness.
Later, in 1994, Eicher Motors acquired this British company and it became the Indian Motorcycle company.
This latest edition in the Royal Enfield family takes its inspiration from the post-war design while retaining the performance of a modern day machine.
This inspiring colour will be available in Classic 500 only that is amongst the most successful products in the Royal Enfield fleet and has been the manufacturer's best-selling offering.
The new Squadron Blue variant receives no mechanical changes. It is powered by the same 500cc single cylinder 4-stroke, twin spark powertrain that will continue to produce 27.2bhp of power at 5,250rpm along with the 41.3Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.
This legendary power plant is coupled to a 5-speed constant mesh transmission and serves as a perfect motorcycle for the long tours.
