The popular Indian lyricist, screenwriter and marketer Prasoon Joshi is celebrating his 46th birthday today. The famous poet is now the Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification after the oustre of controversial Pahlaj Nihalani from the post. Prasoon is a celebrated personality of film fraternity and more than just Bollywood, the writer is much-loved by the poetry aficionados across the country. There are many facets to his personality, he is reckoned as a talented artist and also celebrated as an exceptionally-well screenwriter. With his skills and zeal for poetry and arts, he carved a niche in the industry.

Prasoon Joshi as an Author
Prasoon developed a knack for writing at a very tender age. His first book ‘Main Aur Woh’, a conversation with himself was published when he was just 17 years old. After two more such books, he established himself as an author. It was during his MBA at Institute of Management, Ghaziabad, that he decided to blend his love for literature and his affinity towards commercial dynamics. And thus, he embarked on his journey in the world of advertising.
Prasoon Joshi’s Advertising Career
Prasoon Joshi started his career with Ogilvy & Mather in Delhi. After working there for 10 years, he became the executive creative director of the Mumbai office. In 2002, he joined McCann-Erickson on the post of executive vice president and national creative director. In 2006, he was promoted to executive chairman for McCann Worldgroup India and regional creative director for Asia Pacific.
Joshi’s famous works include NDTV India’s Sach Dikhate Hain Hum, Saffola’s Abhi Toh Main Jawan Hoon, LG, Marico, Perfetti and not to forget, Cannes-winning Thanda Matlab Coca Cola campaign which featured Aamir Khan.
Prasoon Joshi is also the mastermind behind Coca-Cola’s famous Ummeed Wali Dhoop campaign.
Prasoon Joshi’s Journey in Bollywood
He made his debut as film lyricist with Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lajja, which was a critical success. This led to getting him another project which was Yash Chopra’s Hum Tum. And following that, there was no stopping for this man. He has a string of Bollywood successes in his kitty, including Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Black and Delhi 6.
Starting from Rang De Basanti in 2006, he also became a dialogue writer. Joshi bagged the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for Chand Sifarish from the film Fanaa and Maa from Taare Zameen Par. The song Maa remains the favourite of many even till now.
Awards and accolades became a regular affair for Prasoon Joshi. He won the prestigious National Award twice, first for his work in Taare Zameen Par and second, for Chittagong.
Let us tell you, Prasoon is also the man behind the script of award-winning film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. In 2015, he was awarded with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of India for his contribution in the field of Art and Literature.
