The Indian film fraternity welcomed lyricist Prasoon Joshi as the new Central Board of Film Certification chief but soon after this, reports started doing the rounds that he has banned Punjabi film Toofan Singh. This left many heartbroken who thought that Prasoon will bring the change and encourage creative freedom. But, now according to a leading daily, Toofan Singh was banned during former CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani’s tenure.

Raza Murad, who essays the role of home minister in the film, revealed to a leading daily that Nihalani led CBFC banned that film as they thought that it highlights terrorism and might give inappropriate message to youth. He added that the film received warm response in other countries but it is yet to hit the screens in India.

The actor is hopeful that with new person appointed as CBFC chief, makers of Toofan Singh will again submit the film for certification. It is yet to be seen if reports about the film getting banned by Prasoon are right.

Pahlaj Nihalani during his tenure as CBFC chief created trouble for many filmmakers. From demanding removal of word intercourse from Jab Harry Met Sejal to suggesting 48 cuts in Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, the former chief made things difficult for the filmmakers.
