Sunidhi Chauhan's name can be taken in the same breath as female playback singing in the Indian film industry. The singer, who turns 32 today, 14th August, has made her way to the top with her versatile songs.
Listening to her perfect voice, it is hard to imagine that she has had no formal training. The queen of playback singing, she has received a lot of appreciation including a compliment from Lata Mangeshkar. The legendary singer had once stated that Chauhan is the numero uno singer of this generation ahead of her contemporaries.
In her career of many years, Sunidhi has lent her voice to Punjabi, Oriya, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Nepali, Urdu and English songs and with over 3000 songs under her belt she is one of the most bankable singers. Not only in studios, her strong stage performances woo the audiences too forcing them to listen to her on repeat.
Here is a list of her best songs that showered her with accolades and awards:
1) Ruki Ruki from Mast:
The 1999 release Mast which was directed by Ram Gopal Verma starring Urmila Matondkar and Aftab Shivdasani was an instant hit at the box office.
What didn't go unnoticed was Sunidhi Chauhan's melodious voice. She was only 16 when she recorded the song along with Sonu Nigam who was already established in the industry. The song Ruki Ruki was a hit and she even won the prestigious R. D. Burman Filmfare Award for Most Promising Newcomer.
2) Sajna Ve Sajna from Chameli:
Chameli was a 2004 film in which Kareena Kapoor played the role of a prostitute and also starred Rahul Bose. The movie wasn't a huge commercial success but critics welcomed it.
Sunidhi Chauhan once again charmed everyone with her voice. She lent her voice for two songs, Bhaage Re Mann and Sajna Ve Sajna. The latter helped her win a Star Screen Award for best playback singing.
3) Dhoom Machale from Dhoom:
The hit song Dhoom Machale became the face of the movie. One could not just mention the 2005 movie Dhoom without the song playing at the back of the mind.
Sunidhi Chauhan gave a powerful performance with this song. Though this song saw a foreign version later by singer Tata Young, Sunidhi's take was the favourite among audiences. She won the Best Female Playback Singer Award of the International Indian Film Academy.
4) Beedi Jalaile from Omkara:
Even Shakespeare wouldn't have imagined that his work Othello would be remade in a 2007 movie set in a village of Uttar Pradesh, India. But the magician Vishal Bhardawaj made it possible.
Speaking of magic, Sunidhi Chauhan cast a magical spell on listeners with the song Beedi Jalaile. This song was a huge hit and Chauhan won the Filmfare award for best singer.
5) Sheila Ki Jawani from Tees Maar Khan:
Though Tees Maar Khan was a huge box office failure, this song was a hit. Directed by Farah Khan and starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in lead roles, this movie wasn't well received by either the critics or audiences.
But there were only two ladies who were talked about before and after this movie's release.
One was Katrina Kaif because of her amazing performance and the other was Sunidhi Chauhan who sang Sheila Ki Jawani for her. The song was a huge hit across the nation and Sunidhi graced her award collection with yet another Filmfare award for this song.
