Panaji, Apr 19 : Congress MP Shantaram Naik has termed the producers and exhibitors of Rohan Sippy's ‘Dum Maro Dum' as ‘anti nationals' claiming that they have not deleted objectionable dialogues in the film from their international prints.
The Rajya Sabha member Naik, in a letter written to Union Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni, said that the producers and exhibitors of the film were fooling the people of Goa and state government by indirectly saying that they will denigrate Goa and Goan women only on foreign soil.
The producers and exhibitors have no regard for the people of the country and their dignity, and money is the only criteria in their mind, he added.
The MP said it was unacceptable that the objectionable dialogues are retained in the prints overseas.
He has demanded that the Central government should revise the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification with respect to ‘Dum Maro Dum' and pending the decision of the CBFU in revision proceedings; it should declare the film as uncertified and suspend its exhibition as per the clear provisions contained in section 6 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
Naik has said in his letter that as per the guidelines issued under section 5(B) (2) of the Cinematograph Act 1952, visuals or words involving defamation of an individual or a body of individuals, or scenes that may endanger public order are not to be allowed.
“Scenes degrading or denigrating women in any manner are specifically prohibited as per the guideline and the producer has to ensure that human sensibilities are not offended by vulgarity, obscenity or depravity,” Naik said.
The MP added that these guidelines are not merely India specific. PTI
