Sadly, the Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood debut film has failed to leave an impact and, it’s first day box-office collection is proof. The Dwayne Johnson starrer, that released globally last week, hit screens in India yesterday. Regardless of being the sole film that was awaited by cine buffs, Baywatch failed to mint business. The film collected Rs 2.25 crores on its opening day in the nation, according to boxofficecollection.in.
This means that the much talked about film recorded only 10-15 percent of occupancy across India on its first day of release in the nation. Baywatch doomed on US box-office as well. According to Deadline reports, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar’s Revenge in India) bagged an estimate $24-$26 million on Friday, while Baywatch managed to rake in only $6-$7 million on its debut.
Based on the popular TV series, Baywatch had PeeCee in the role of an antagonist Victoria Leeds. The film, undoubtedly, featured some of the most renowned faces but those actors did not manage to ensure footfalls at the theatres. The critics were also not impressed with the movie. Many suggested the film’s plot was weak and not all the actors were used up to their potential. The movie was slammed by critics for taking convenient plot turns that put the viewers off. Priyanka’s character was also termed as an underused one.
