The Income Tax raids on most premises belonging to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao and his son Vivek were wound up in the early hours of Thursday. However, raids continued at the offices of Vivek in Chennai on Thursday, a senior income tax investigation official said.

The searches, top I-T sources said, were launched against Rao’s son Vivek Papisetty and his relatives, including his father-in-law based in Chittoor.

Mohana Rao who was replaced as the top bureaucrat of the state within 24 hours of the raid at his residence and offices. Officials claimed to have recovered Rs 30 lakh cash in new notes and 5 kgs of gold besides getting “disclosure” about Rs 5 crore of unaccounted income and ownership of six companies in the name of his son.

Three companies are situated on the third floor of a building on the Chamier's Road at Nandanam.

“We are surveying the three companies -- Virtu Technologies India, Blue Ocean P&A Services and Trans Earth Logistics -- since Wednesday evening. We need to check some more documents in those offices. The survey might be completed by this evening," Times of India quoted an official as saying.

The IT officials were trying to get the source of funding for the companies that Vivek launched in 2012.

“We should check what these companies are doing. There are several laptops in cartons on the staircase of the building. We need to check them too," said the official.

The IT action came in connection with a case related to the biggest cash haul of new notes post demonetisation after the department raided some sand mining operators of Tamil Nadu here.

Reddy and his associate K Srinivasulu were arrested on Wednesday by CBI and remanded to judicial custody by a court here.
