All India Muslim Personal Law Board(AIMPLB) has slammed Allahabad High Court’s ruling which declared triple talaq ‘unconstitutional ‘and against women's rights.
Reacting to Allahabad High Court’s ruling, AIMPLB member Kamal Faruqui said that there should be no interference in triple talaq practice as it is a part of the Sharia law.
“Islam is one of the most progressive religions on women's rights. Talaq is a part of the Sharia law, so no interference should be there. The Constitution gives me the right to follow my religion. It's only an observation by the court, not a decision,” Kamal Faruqui said.
Another Muslim cleric Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said that the AIMPLB's legal committee will file an appeal against the verdict after studying the ruling and the observation.
“I respect the High Court's verdict, but we have constitutional rights to appeal against the verdict if not satisfied. The AIMPLB's legal committee will study the verdict and the observation, and then it will file its appeal against the said verdict. I don't think it (triple talaq) is unconstitutional. If few people misuse the laws, you can take action against them and not remove the law,” Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said.
However, the petitioner Zakiya Soman has welcomed the High Court’s verdict and said that triple talaq must be abolished as it’s not constitutional.
