New Delhi: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad yesterday rued lack of knowledge among people of the national capital about various central sponsored health schemes.

At a function after laying foundation of a hospital in South Delhi, he said government can only launch schemes and people must take benefit from them to make these schemes successful.

Azad expressed unhappiness when people at the gathering conveyed to him that they were not aware of various central sponsored health schemes.

The Union minister said the health ministry books slots in various channels of Doordarshan to telecast programs to educate people about various schemes of his ministry.

"We are spending crores of rupees in publicising these schemes, you must take benefit from them," he said.

Azad's remark came when people at the gathering replied in negative when he asked whether they watch health ministry's program on Doordarshan.

"You can lead a horse to river but you can't make it drink," he said quoting a proverb.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Azad laid the foundation of a 200-bed multi speciality hospital in Ambedkar Nagar area in South Delhi.

The hospital will have a number of departments such as internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and orthopaedics besides emergency and OPD services.
