Kolkata, Jan 20: It was an electric shock for a lowly-paid government school teacher in West Bengal when he logged into his recurring deposit account in State Bank of India  to check its status and found to his utter dismay that there was Rs 49,570 crores (yes, crores) in his bank account.

Parijat Saha, the teacher working in Chakram High School in Balurghat in West Dinajpur North Bengal, has a monthly salary of a few thousand rupees.

The teacher used to deposit Rs 1000 every month in his account for the last 10 months.

On Sunday he needed cash, and  when he logged in to his recurring deposit  account in the SBI website to check his balance, he found the staggering figure. It was the shock of his life.

The teacher immediately got in touch with the local SBI manager and submitted an application the next day pointing out to the anomaly.

The SBI has freezed his account for the time being, and is trying to find out the source of this money.

SBI officials are tight-lipped over the matter.  One official said it could be due to a technical error during transaction, but the mystery continues.
