Police on Wednesday released photographs of the three suspects in the northwest Delhi honour killing case and announced cash rewards for information regarding the trio even as family members of the inter-caste couple and their relative justified their murders saying "these will send a message to the community".

Cash rewards of Rs 50,000 each were announced by the northwest Delhi Police for anyone providing information about Mandeep (23), Ankit (22) and Nakul (21).

"It will take some time in getting the post mortem report. But, prima facie it appears that the both incidents (murder of Monica, 24, and her husband Kuldeep, 26, and also of the girls' 22-year-old cousin Shobha) took place on June 20 evening itself," DCP (northwest) N S Bundella said.

He said whoever was involved in the two murders will be arrested soon, adding, "I cannot say more than this."  Although, family members of Mandeep did not accept his involvement in the killings, they justified the murders saying, "it will send a message to the community."

Talking to reporters here, Mandeep's uncle Dharmaveer Nagar said "No this (killing) is not at all wrong. What is wrong in it? Murder is wrong but this (killing) is socially the best thing that has been done. This cannot be termed as wrong.  "It (inter-community marriages) will break our society, bring down self-confidence. When it is being talked about bringing youths ahead, I would say youth have done the best thing (by killing Monica, Kuldeep and Shobha). This will leave a message in society."

Asked whether he was in support of such killings, "I definitely support it."  Nagar, however, alleged that police was investigating the case with one sided perception taking into consideration only members of the girl's family.

"The car (in which Shobha's body was recovered) does not belong to us but names of the family members of the girls' family are figuring (as accused) in the case. What is this?" he questioned.

Monica and Kuldeep were allegedly murdered on Sunday for marrying in another caste. Police yesterday recovered the body of Shobha, who too had eloped with a man belonging to a different caste.

Ankit is brother of Monica while Mandeep is her cousin. Shobha is Mandeep's sister. Mandeep and Ankit are absconding and police suspect the involvement of both in Shobha's murder. PTI
