Chennai: The deadline for fixing electronic meters in autorickshaws in Tamil Nadu has been extended by another month till November 15.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered the extension of the deadline, which ended yesterday, since the work on providing new tariff cards to the drivers and fixing meters was yet to be completed, an official release said yesterday.

As on October 10, a total of 61,235 autorickshaws out of the total 71,470 vehicles have been given the tariff card by the transport department, the release said.

The state government had on August 25 announced revision in fares of the three-wheeler, one of the popular modes of local transport in the state, after a gap of six years.
