Srinagar:  A Hizbul Mujahideen militant has been arrested near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, police said today.  

Showkat Ahmad Awan, a resident of Pehlipora village of south Kashmir's Shopian district, was arrested on January nine near the LoC in Tangdar sector of Kupwara, police said.  

They said an AK rifle, two AK magazines, 67 rounds, one pistol, one pistol magazine, one hand grenade was recovered from Awan's possession.

Awan's belongs to the Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit, the police said.

Hizbul Mujahideen is translated as "Party of Holy Warriors".

The current supreme commander of the group is a Kashmiri known under the alias of Sayeed Salahudeen.
