Indore, Jul 17: Denying that he had spoken about the possibility of RSS' involvement in the Mumbai blasts, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Saturday said he had been misquoted.

“In the aftermath of the Mumbai blasts, I had said that the possibility of any group's involvement cannot be ruled out. But I had not taken the name of RSS. I have been misquoted,” he told reporters here.

The Congress General Secretary's alleged remarks created a flutter in the political circles, with Opposition BJP terming them as “disgusting and objectionable”.

“The BJP strongly condemns the disgusting statements of Digvijay Singh and seeks an apology from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on this,” party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here.

“Digvijay Singh is playing politics over terror and dead bodies. He is trying to divert the course of investigations into the Mumbai terror attack by making such statements,” he said.

When asked about the criticism by Hussain, Singh said, “Shahnawaz wears a mask. He reads out only those statements which the RSS writes and hands over to him.”

Singh also told reporters that the Centre and Maharashtra government were serious about investigations into the Mumbai blasts and that the Maharashtra ATS should be given time to carry out its probe.

On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement that it was not possible to prevent each and every terror attack, Singh said, “I condemn the statements being made on what was said by the person who lost his grandmother and father to terrorism.”PTI
