New Delhi: North Delhi Municipal Corporation today announced a new health scheme for women which aims to bring services closer for those living in rural areas and unauthorised colonies.

“NDMC will launch the ‘Stri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna' on March 6.

“The scheme will reach out to women, especially those living in rural areas and unauthorised colonies, who otherwise do not have much access to health services,” said NDMC Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj.

Under the scheme, health camps and mass awareness drives will be held in various areas of north Delhi and medical services will be provided through various nodal centres, hospitals and mobile dispensaries marked for the programme.

“Many women in these areas suffer either out of poverty or for the lack of medical assistance. Women will be examined at the camps and health centres under the scheme.

“We will first try to treat them at polyclinics in all the zones but, depending on the case, we may also refer patients to AIIMS,” Bhardwaj said.
