Mumbai, Apr 14: The Maharashtra state assembly on Wednesday evening passed a bill to provide 50 per cent reservation to women in all local bodies including Municipal corporations.
 
The bill passed unanimously provides for 50 per cent reservation to women in all gram panchayats, zilla parishads, mahapalikas and nagar parishads.
 
Bihar, Gujarat and Karnataka states have already provided for 50 per cent reservation in their local bodies.
 
With the passing of the bill in Maharashtra, the political parties in the state will now have to find out women candidates in large numbers for the forthcoming elections to at least 10 municipal corporations.
