New Delhi: Leela Samson, former CBFC chairperson, has clarified that her resignation was not related to the controversy over Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim's film “Messenger of God”.
In an interview to Economic Times, Leela gave her version of why she decided to quit as CBFC chairperson .
According to Leela, Information and Broadcast Ministry has always played the boss in CBFC functioning.
“If not with me, they speak to and persuade officials to do their bidding” she stated.
She clarified that the problem didn't crop up only after the BJP came to power as it was there during UPA regime as well when the then I&B minister Manish Tiwari kept appointing new members on the Board without seeking consent of the Chairperson.
Leela said that she faced interference in her work from all sorts of people, from religious to fundamentalists groups.
She wanted the government to have faith in the system that they themselves have set up.
Samson resigned from her post of the Censor Board chief on Thursday citing interference in her work by the government.
According to media reports, her resignation was an outcome of Film Certification Appellate Tribunal's (FCAT) approval of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim's controversial film “Messenger of God” .
