Mumbai: A young and a differently-abled woman, Antara Telang (24), on her way to Bengaluru on January 30, was asked to unbutton her pants to show her prosthetic leg at the Mumbai airport. The incident, which has been slammed as case of blatant discrimination, ended with tears in Antara's eyes.
Antara alleges that the security officials were forcing her to undergo a security check where she was asked to show her prosthetic leg to make sure that she wasn't carrying any explosive.
On Sunday, when Antara was going to board Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru, she was forced to sit in the security hold area where the metal detector got something on her and she was asked to show her leg.
Despite Anatara informing the officials that she had a prosthetic leg, they forced her to remove her jeans to prove that it was indeed a prosthetic leg.
"@CSIAMumbai@MumbaiCentral forced to take off jeans, had prosthetic leg passed through a scanner, and brought to tears. Happy journey to me," she tweeted immediately after the tragic incident.
Her tweet was followed with a CISF reply refuting the allegations of discrimination. "Already the Mumbai airport is on high alert and due to security concerns at the airport, the female officer asked the passenger to do so after an indication by the metal detector. The officer was doing her duty but the passenger took offense," said a Central Industrial Security Force official.
