Mumbai: MNS chief Raj Thackeray has warned multiplexes not showing Marathi films despite state government directives but Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said the government has not received a single complaint that the multiplexes are not showing Marathi films.

"The Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal has not lodged even a single complaint with us..neither with me nor with the department," Chavan told reporters at his official residence here this evening.

Asked about reports that multiplex owners were violating provisions of the government norms by not screening Marathi films, the chief minister said "it can be termed a violations only when a Marathi film distributor approaches them and they refuse to show the film."

The state government has made available its P L Deshpande mini theatre in Prabhadevi for screening Marathi films. The government is also mulling a cinema hall at Dhobi Talao which would screen Marathi films, he said.

However, the place where the theatre is proposed has been declared a silence zone and the matter is subjudice, he added.

Raj told his partymen in Mumbai last week to prepare a list of multiplexes that are not showing Marathi films. Despite the government resolution which makes showing of Marathi films compulsory, the multiplexes are breaking norms and this can no more be tolerated, he said. PTI
