Srinagar: Pakistani flags were waved and anti-India slogans were raised in Kashmir today in a rally organised by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Recently released hardliner Masarat Alam was also present in the rally.
Geelani today arrived in Srinagar from Delhi and was received by his supporters. The crowd turned into a rally later.
During the procession that lasted for a several hours, anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans were raised. Geelani later addressed the crowd and condemned the recent encounter in Tral where an alleged militant was killed by security forces.
The army on Monday had killed the alleged militant in an encounter in Tral area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir during a search operation. Army officials said that they had received information about presence of militants in Kamla Top forest area near Buchoo village of Tral.
The encounter has triggered fresh disturbance in the state where several organisations has called for protests. Yesterday, police detained separatist leaders Mohammad Yasin Malik and Masarat Alam at Awantipora when they were on their way to Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, where two suspected militants were killed in an army operation yesterday.
Geelani, who was in Delhi for medical treatment, today reached Kashmir to stage a state-wise protest against the encounter.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that the encounter is unfortunate and army should have been more cautious.
