Jamui: Acting on a tip-off , the Bihar and West Bengal Police, in a joint operation, seized Rs 1.63 crore in cash from the possession of a cobbler here.

According to police, the recovered money is a part of a consignment of Rs 4 crore cash belonging to HDFC Bank, which had fallen from a cash van in Kolkata earlier in September this year.

A police official said that few hawkers were present at the spot where the box of Indian currency fell from the cash van. They distributed the money among themselves and fled away.

Police informed that they have also nabbed three persons in this connection and interrogation is on to get full details of their plan.

The West Bengal Police has so far arrested seven persons from different parts of the state.
