Salman Khursheed Defends Chidambaram, Calls NDA Demand UnjustifiedNew Delhi, Dec 8 : Law Minister Salman Khursheed today rejected NDA's demand for the resignation of Home Minister P Chidambaram on the 2G issue saying it was unjustified and the law should be allowed
New Delhi, Dec 8 : Law Minister Salman Khursheed today rejected NDA's demand for the resignation of Home Minister P Chidambaram on the 2G issue saying it was unjustified and the law should be allowed to take its own course.
Speaking to India TV, Khursheed asked: "What morality? What type of morality? If we raise questions on each and every minister, how can the government function?
"I don't know what the application was, and what the court's order was. But here, they are demanding his resignation. Let's go through the court proceedings first."
Later speaking to mediapersons, the Law Minister said "my humble request to the opposition is to let the parliament function and let the law take its own course. Courts have their job to do, we have our job to do."
"Chidambaram is part of government, we are also part of the government. We all stand together", he said.
On BJP's demand for resignation, he said, "I think it's extremely unfair. Please respect a person's dignity. The law is the same for all, be it a common citizen or a minister. An application has been filed, and the court has asked the applicant to appear as witness. So this is not a verdict at all. This is a procedural matter in court."
"Even for arguments' sake if we agree that the court has issued an order, it is no question mark on Chidambaram or the government. I don't think it's proper to highlight this too much", Khursheed said.
