Etawah (UP), Apr 1: Three persons were killed when PAC jawans fired at an unruly mob which indulged in stoning during a clash over flag hoisting on Brahmani Devi temple on the occasion of Ramnavami here.

The situation was reported to be tense till late in the night.

More than six persons were admitted to the mini PGI hospital in Saifai, the hometown of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his father.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced Rs 5 lakh each ex-gratia to the next of kin of those killed in the firing, and Rs 50,000 each to those critically injured.

Other injured persons will get Rs 20,000 each. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered.

Police said, they had to fire in order to protect their firearms which the unruly mob was intent on looting.
