New Delhi: US Ambassador to India, Richard Verma, has reiterated he US stand that it supports India's claim for inclusion in expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

According to a report published in 'The Hindu', Verma  said that US would stand by President Barack Obama's bilateral commitment to India that it will vote for India's permanent seat in UNSC.

During his visit to India in January this year, the US President had endorsed India's long-held demand for a permanent UNSC seat.

A letter from the US Ambassador to the UN saying it supported a moderate expansion of the UNSC without a veto power to new members was seen by Govt of India  as a dilution of the US support for India.

Recently, reports were doing the round that US, Russia and China have opposed negotiations to reform the powerful UN body. The move was seen as a setback to India's bid for a permanent seat in an expanded UN Security Council.

According to India, a seat on the Council would reflect the growing weight of the G-20 nation as its trillion dollar economy helps spur global growth.

Verma also said that India and US can together be a force for greater peace, prosperity and security in the world.

He further pitched for expanding bilateral defence cooperation and proposed that the US and India could build fighter aircraft together and that too in India.
