Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party will seek President Pranab Mukherjee's intervention to ensure "equal justice" to Seemandhra and Telangana regions in the wake of Centre's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh.

A delegation under YSRCP honorary president Y S Vijayamma will meet the President today in New Delhi to apprise him about the developments in the state following Congress' move to create Telangana state.

"Y S Vijayamma, along with party MPs, MLAs and MLCs, will meet the President seeking his intervention to ensure justice to both regions before the Congress decision of dividing the State comes up in the cabinet for discussion," senior YSRCP leader Konathala Ramakrishna said in a statement.

The party has already written letter to Prime Minister about the "serious" issues that would crop up if the division is allowed, he said, adding "it is not prudent to split the state without addressing these issues".

YSRCP has urged Centre to maintain a status quo if justice cannot be done to both regions, Konatala said.

Strident protests are on in Seemandhra, which comprises Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, for united Andhra Pradesh.

Konatala demanded that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu withdraw the letter of unconditional support for separate state, which he had given to Centre.

"We demand that Naidu resign from Assembly and go on fast along with his cadre," he said.

Konatala said it was wrong on part of some of YSRCP leaders to blame former chief minister (late) Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, father of party founder Jaganmohan Reddy, for setting in motion the process to split the state.

"Rajasekhara Reddy was a true democrat and when some MLAs gave him a letter on the need for Telangana state, he forwarded it to Central leadership...The CWC then said that there are many states which are seeking division and it should be taken up after the second State Reorganisation Commission is set up," Konatala added.
