London, Apr 30: There were rumours that Kate Middleton would  wear the tiara worn by the Queen at her own wedding in 1947.

But the bride eschewed the elaborate head piece in favour of a more simple - but equally stunning - design for her marriage to Prince William.

Catherine, now known as the Duchess of Cambridge, wore the diamond creation as her 'something borrowed' from her grandmother-in-law, reports Daily Mail.

The veil was held in place by the Cartier ‘halo' tiara, made in 1936 and purchased by King George VI for his wife Queen Elizabeth three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth, now the Queen, by her mother on the occasion of her 18th birthday.

Catherine matched the tiara with earrings by Robinson Pelham - a gift from her parents inspired by the new Middleton coat of arms.Stylised oak leaves with a pear shaped diamond set drop and a pavé set diamond acorn suspended in the centre sparkled, framing Catherine's face perfectly.

They were made to compliment the tiara, and were on display as Catherine's hair was pulled away from her face.In a half-chignon, her loose waves - a hairstyle that launched a thousand imitations - were romantic and marked the end of the 'poker straight' era.

Celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barton, who has worked previously as creative director for Saks and Toni & Guy said: 'I kind of knew that she would want to still feel and look like Kate.

'I think we've seen some hints of it over the last few weeks when it has been partly pulled back and partly left down.'I would call it a kind-of-up-but-down do.'
