New Delhi: A written constitution is a formal document defining the nature of the constitutional settlement, the rules that govern the political system and the rights of citizens and governments in a codified form.

Constitutions organise, distribute and regulate state power. They set out the structure of the state, the major state institutions, and the principles governing their relations with each other and with the state's citizens.

India has the world's biggest constitution.It is based on the on the founding principle England as it ruled over India from 1858 to 1947.
